Set up time-based categories for your website and kiosk

  • About time-based categories

    You can create a category that’s time-based to support menu items that are only available during certain times of the day (like breakfast, lunch, weekends, etc). These time-based categories also work with your collection and local delivery hours, which means customers can only purchase items during the times you specify (subject to any applicable prep times and local delivery estimate settings).

    Before you begin

    • You can set up time-based categories from Square Dashboard.

    • Time-based categories only work with Categories. If you use Menus to manage your catalogue for online ordering and Square Kiosk, learn how to create and update menus to set time-based menus.

    • When using time-based categories:

    Set up time-based categories

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Items & services (or Items & menus or Items & inventory) > Items > Categories.

    2. Select an existing category or create a new one.

    3. Under Availability, select the Only during certain days and times option and use the tick boxes to choose which days of the week these items are available. For each selected day, you can also enter multiple timeframes by clicking + and entering in the hours.

    4. Click Save.
