Customize payment link settings

About settings for payment links

Settings for Square Payment Links enable you to customize how your links function and look when customers receive them.

Before you begin 

You can customize payment link settings from Square Dashboard.

Payment links cannot be created or customized from Square Restaurants POS, Square Appointments POS, or Square Invoices apps at this time.

General settings

Set up payment options

You can choose what digital wallets to accept on your payment links. With digital wallets, customers can check out using Apple Pay or Google Pay. Card payments are accepted automatically.

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Payments & orders (or Payments & invoices or Payments) > Payment links > Settings > General.
  2. Under Payments, toggle Apple Pay or Google Pay as needed.

Note: Apple Pay will only appear if you’re using Safari as your web browser.

Set up Afterpay

With Afterpay, your customers pay in instalments while you get paid in full right away.

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Account & Settings > Payments > Payment methods.
  2. Under Afterpay, click ••• > Edit settings.
  3. Toggle the Online option on.
  4. Click Save.

Once you’ve enabled Afterpay, you can also set the eligibility range.

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Payments & orders (or Payments & invoices or Payments) > Payment links > Settings > General.
  2. Under Instalments, click Afterpay eligibility range to enter ranges for items and orders.
  3. Click Done.

Note: The setting for online payments with Afterpay is global and applies across all Square products that can also take Afterpay payments online. This includes other online platforms such as Square Online and Square Virtual Terminal. There isn’t a way to disable Afterpay only for Square Payment Links at this time.

Set up email notifications

With email notifications, you can get an email after each transaction.

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Payments & orders (or Payments & invoices or Payments) > Payment links > Settings > General.
  2. Under “Email notifications,” toggle Dashboard or mobile add-on links or Point of Sale or Virtual Terminal links as needed.

Review location settings

You can choose a location to associate with your payment links, sales and reporting.

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Payments & orders (or Payments & invoices or Payments) > Payment links > Settings > General.
  2. Under “Location settings,” choose a Location from the drop-down menu.

Set up sales taxes

You can set up sales taxes from your sales tax settings and they will automatically apply to your payment links. Learn how to create and manage sales tax settings.

Note: Payment links do not support manually applied online taxes set on pickup and shipping orders.

Collect tips

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Payments & orders (or Payments & invoices or Payments) > Payment links > Settings > General.
  2. Under Tipping, click Tip options.
  3. Select either Smart tips or Percentage tips only, and set three percentages as default tip options during checkout. From the drop-down menu, you can then choose an optional default tip percentage to have preselected during checkout from the three percentages you entered previously. Customers can always change or remove the amount at checkout.
    • The Smart tips option shows either percentage or whole amounts depending on the final amount of the order. Orders under $10 enable tipping in whole amounts, and orders over $10 enable tipping in percentages.
    • The Percentage tips only option shows tipping in percentages for all orders regardless of the final amount.
  4. Click Done.

Enable service charges

You can add extra charges to your checkout page to cover overhead costs. Learn how to apply service charges.

Note: Variable service charges cannot be applied. The service charges listed only apply to Collect a payment and Accept a donation payment links.

Set up coupons

During checkout, customers can utilize marketing coupons on your payment links. First, learn how to create vanity code coupons, then you can enable them for your payment links.

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Payments & orders (or Payments & invoices or Payments) > Payment links > Settings > General.
  2. Under Coupons, toggle on Enable coupons.

The customer must enter the coupon code into the designated field on the payment link’s checkout screen to receive the discount. Only one coupon can be applied per payment link.

Collect customer information

You can display a text box for customers to leave an optional note at checkout, helping you collect any additional customer details you might need.

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Payments & orders (or Payments & invoices or Payments) > Payment links > Settings > General.
  2. Under “Customer information,” toggle on Enable customer notes.

Display merchant policies

You can display your policies as a seller for your payment links.

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Payments & orders (or Payments & invoices or Payments) > Payment links > Settings > General.
  2. Under “Merchant policies,” click Add.
  3. Enter a title and description for your policy.
  4. Click Done.

Note: Policies entered here are a guideline. You are responsible for making sure they comply with any laws and regulations. Square doesn’t guarantee that these policies are legal or can be enforced.

Set up fulfillment

Fulfillment settings only apply to payment links selling items. Pickup is not available for events or subscriptions.

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Payments & orders (or Payments & invoices or Payments) > Payment links > Settings > General.
  2. Toggle on Enable shipping and set up your shipping rate profiles by going to Settings > Account & Settings > Fulfillment methods > Shipment. Learn how to set up shipping rate profiles.
  3. Toggle on Enable pickup and manage your Prep time, Pickup instructions and Pickup hours.

Branding settings

Choose a location

Before you set up branding for your payment links, choose the location you want to brand.

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Payments & orders (or Payments & invoices or Payments) > Payment links > Settings > Branding.
  2. Choose a Location from the drop-down menu.

Add your logo

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Payments & orders (or Payments & invoices or Payments) > Payment links > Settings > Branding.
  2. Toggle on Logo.
  3. To add or edit your logo, click Add/Edit in Location settings.

Customize buy buttons

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Payments & orders (or Payments & invoices or Payments) > Payment links > Settings > Branding.
  2. Choose your button Colour and Shape. You can choose a button colour from the preset colour options or by entering a hex code.
  3. Choose a Font from the drop-down menu.
  4. Toggle options for Image, Titleand Price.
