About card network sounds

Square Point of Sale offers audio cues to help you and your team stay informed during transactions. Payment sounds include:

  • Card network sounds — When a customer pays with a Visa or Mastercard, the Square app plays the corresponding branded audio tone at the completion of a transaction.

  • Declined payment speaker cue — An optional tone that plays through your device speaker when a card payment is declined. This is helpful in noisy or multi-station environments where you may not hear the reader buzzer.

You can enable or disable each sound independently from your payment sounds settings.

Before you begin

You can enable card network sounds on Square hardware, including Square Register, Square Stand, Square Terminal, and Square Readers. You cannot set card network sounds for Square apps on smartphones that aren’t connected to a Square Reader.

  3. Toggle Declined payment speaker cue on.
